Overview

Ruaha National Park is the second largest national park in Tanzania (7,809 sq m) that covers a large track of its borders along the great RuahaRiver which originated from the Rungwa and Kizigo-Muhesi Game Reserves in Manyoni District, Singida Region.The park is spread into five regions that include Morogoro, Iringa, Mbeya, Rukwa, Dodoma, and Singida. Safari and tours to Ruaha National Park offer the tourist a unique chance of viewing herds of wild animals, miombo and tropical forests, and abundance of species. Famous for its ecology and large population of the “Big Five”, the park is known for having a large variety of species in Eastern and Southern Africa. Thus, a safari to Ruaha National Park provides the tourists the opportunity to be in a park that has the largest concentration of elephants (10,000) in East Africa, the biggest paradise of 571 species of birds, and home to 10% of global lion population. Ruaha Airstrip
Safaris to Ruaha National Park is by air and roads which have been improved and are functional throughout the year. In June 2024, a new airstrip in Ruaha National Park was official opened to cater for tourists to the park. The airstrip has been built in Mlungu village, Mbarali District, Mbeya region. Funded by the Six Rivers Africa Foundation (SRA), the airstrip has a capacity of handling about 30 passengers at a time and has started to woo a large number of tourists. The airstrip has attracted the setting up of budget and luxury camps and lodges for tourists of all categories.
