Tourism in Southern Circuit
Tourism in the southern circuit refers to the tourist attractions that are spread in seven regions located in the southern part of the country. In recent years the Government of Tanzania has been investing heavily in the tourism infrastructure and marketing. Currently, the government is constructing a large international airport that will cater for direct tourist flights into the southern circuit. The most popular destinations and “must visit” attractions include the Nyerere National Park in Coast and Lindi regions (formerly Selous Game Reserve), Mikumi National Park in Morogoro region, Udzungwa Mountains in Iringa region,Ruaha National Park in Iringa region, Chief Mkwawa Museum in Kalonga, Isimani in Iringa region. The “must=visit” attractions in Mbeya region include Kitulo National Park, the famous mysterious Lake Ngozi in Tukuyu,and Matema Beach Resort along Lake Nyasa in Kyela District. Tourist attractions in Songwe region include theUsangu escarpmentand Mbozi Meteorite Stone in Mbozi. Access to these attractions is facilitated by daily flights to Iringa, Mbeya, Songea and Njombe respectively.
